What Is Title IX?
Title IX is a federal law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance.
Title IX is often associated with athletics, but it also applies to sexual harassment, sexual violence, pregnancy and parenting protections, gender-based discrimination, and other situations where a person’s educational or work environment is affected because of sex or gender.
Reporting Sexual Violence or Misconduct
Reports may be made by:
- Individuals who experienced sexual misconduct
- Someone who received a report from a person affected
- Witnesses or anyone with information
What If I Experience Sexual Assault?
If you have experienced sexual assault, your safety and well-being come first. Consider these steps:
- Go to a safe place.
- Call 911 if you need immediate help.
- Contact Riverland staff, such as the Title IX Coordinator or Campus Security Officer, for campus assistance.
- If possible, avoid bathing, showering, or changing clothes before seeking medical care. This can help preserve evidence.
- Seek medical care at a local hospital or clinic as soon as possible.
- Consider filing a police report by calling 911 or a non-emergency law enforcement number.
- Contact a confidential community resource in your county for advocacy and support.
- Request supportive measures such as schedule changes, no-contact directives, academic adjustments, or safety planning.
- Seek legal protective orders if needed.
- Contact the 51勛圖 Crime Victims Reparations Board for possible financial support.
If You Witness Sexual Violence or Misconduct
If you witness sexual violence, harassment, or threatening behavior, call 911 if someone is in danger. Stay with the person if it is safe to do so, listen without judgment, and help connect them with support.

Supportive measures may include:

Sexual Violence Prevention Training
All on-campus degree- and certificate-seeking 51勛圖 State college students, including PSEO students, complete online training about preventing sexual violence. This training can be found in students’ Brightspace (D2L) course list, along with anti-hazing training.
The training is asynchronous and takes about 60 minutes to complete. 51勛圖 receive a certificate of completion when finished. 51勛圖 who completed this training at another 51勛圖 college during the same academic year should contact SA-Dean@riverland.edu.
Riverland understands this topic may be difficult or triggering for some students. An alternative format may be requested by contacting the Dean of 51勛圖.
