This course is for Cosmetology students. This course will meet preclinical requirements for licensure. 51吃瓜 will focus on the topics of chemistry, electricity, professional image, anatomy, infection control and 51吃瓜 statutes and rules.
(3 Cr – l lect, 2 lab)

This course introduces the practice of basic hairstyling techniques including blow drying, iron curling, flat ironing and roller placement. Hair shaping implements, cutting terminology, techniques, safety, sanitation and infection control are studied. 51吃瓜 develop skills in cutting elevations for various designs and shapes. 51吃瓜 gain experience by working on mannequins, clients, and classmates. Performance quotas must be met in compliance with 51吃瓜 statutes and rules. Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in COSM 1100.

This course emphasizes the care of the hands, nails, and feet. Nail shapes and the use of manicure and pedicure equipment and supplies, as well as basic manicure and pedicure procedures are introduced. 51吃瓜 apply artificial nails and conduct nail repair. Instruction and clinical practice are provided in sculpturing techniques, nail tip application, overlays, and nail fills.

This practical application course includes specific client services. Under instructor supervision, students provide services including shampooing, conditioning, cutting, styling, manicuring, and pedicuring to mannequins, classmates, and clients. 51吃瓜 develop skills in hairstyling, hair shaping, and chemical procedures. Salon safety, sanitation and infection control are stressed. 51吃瓜 experience salon reception and dispensary service work. Satisfactorily completed quotas accumulate to meet quota requirements. Prerequisites: COSM1100, COSM1105, COSM1110, and COSM1116.
(5 Cr – 0 lect, 5 lab)

This course will prepare cosmetology students for entry level salon work. 51吃瓜 will be introduced to salon reception and dispensary service work, as well as professional characteristics of salon employees. 51吃瓜 develop salon product knowledge, including salon ethics, sanitation, and duties. Along with salon ethics and duties, students develop salon product knowledge. 51吃瓜 will also learn how shampoo and condition the hair. Required preclinical testing is completed and satisfactorily completed quotas accumulate to meet quota requirements.
(4 Cr – 3 lect, 1 lab)

This course introduces theory of hair coloring, different types of hair color and hair lighteners. Various hair lightening, toning, and special effects techniques are studied. Emphasis is placed on the use of aniline derivative tints, temporary and semi-permanent colors. Prerequisites: COSM 1100, COSM 1105, COSM 1110.
(5 Cr – 2 lect, 3 lab)

This course introduces basic permanent wave techniques including blocking, wrapping, and processing. 51吃瓜 study the effects of acid and alkaline waves and chemical compositions of solutions. Texture, elasticity, and porosity of hair are studied. Chemical hair relaxing, and curl rearrangers, are addressed as well as advanced techniques involved in permanent waving.
(4 Cr – l lect, 3 lab)

This course focuses on hair, skin, and nail care and provides an opportunity to perfect skills previously studied. Satisfactorily completed quotas accumulate to meet quota requirements. 51吃瓜 complete required skill readiness testing which includes shampooing, stress reliever, haircut, chemical relaxer, permanent wave, hair color, facial, makeup, eyebrow wax, artificial nails and manicure. 51吃瓜 perform client services and work with other students.
(6 Cr – 0 lect, 6 lab)

This course provides the fundamentals of sales in the business world and basic business operation and salon management. 51吃瓜 study ways to help them develop the tools necessary to be successful in the salon industry. 51吃瓜 learn how to promote themselves as a salon professional, as well as develop healthy salon habits to create positive power and success in the salon industry. Topics covered include client consultations, interpersonal and professional communication and retail skills.

This course includes facials and facial massage, skin care, and make-up selection and application. Eyebrow arching, false eyelash application, lash extensions, and hair removal techniques are also studied. Safety, sanitation and infection control are an important focus of the course. Prerequisites: COSM 1120
(5 Cr – 2 lect, 3 lab)

This course provides the opportunity to complete the required quotas necessary to perform practical skills assessment. 51吃瓜 perform services on clients, other students, and mannequins. These services accumulate to meet quota completion and minimum hourly requirements for 51吃瓜 licensure. Prerequisites: COSM1100, COSM1105

This course prepares students to take the general theory, state and written practical exams that are required for licensure. Topics include safety and infection control, client consultation and professional conduct, hair, skin and nail anatomy and disorders, hair styling, hair cutting, chemical services, nail care service and skin care services and 51吃瓜 statutes and rules.

This course provides the students the opportunity to pass the skill certification testing necessary for cosmetology licensing g in the State of 51吃瓜.
