Computer Technology

Not sure which area of IT you want to pursue? That's exactly what your first year is for. Riverland's Computer Technology AAS is built around a two-year model: explore broadly in year one, then specialize in year two. You'll graduate with hands-on skills, industry credentials, and a clear direction -- in just four semesters.

Your two-year path: Year one introduces you to hardware, software, networking, security, and support -- so you can discover where your interests and strengths lie. Year two, you choose a specialization and build the credentials that match your goals.

Choose Your Specialization

In your second year, you'll focus on the area of IT that fits you best. Specialization options include:

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Microsoft systems administration
  • Mobile apps and virtual reality
  • Social media and digital marketing
  • Web development and game design
  • Web page design

You'll also gain hands-on experience installing, upgrading, and repairing computers, configuring Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems, setting up and securing networks, and troubleshooting common hardware and software problems.

What You Will Study

Your coursework builds a strong foundation across all areas of IT before you specialize. Core topics include:

  • Core IT skills in hardware and software management
  • Network setup, routing, and basic security
  • Operating systems and system administration
  • Introduction to scripting and automation
  • Customer service and technical support practices
